This year, the World Affairs Council of Connecticut was selected as one of only 14 World Affairs Councils nationwide to present the Spotlight on Turkey program in 2013. The program, sponsored by the World Affairs Councils of America in collaboration with the Turkish Cultural Foundation, runs a full calendar year and educates communities about Turkey’s rich culture primarily through teacher workshops in the spring, a teacher study tour of Turkey in the summer, and public cultural programs in the fall. The program emphasizes classroom learning and public education about Turkey and its contributions to the global community.
In February the Council held a workshop for middle school and high school teachers on the history, culture, and politics of Turkey. Many of the teachers who attended the workshop applied to participate in the program’s Study Tour of Turkey this summer. Three teachers were selected from our workshop, and they embark on their tour of Turkey this Saturday. Stay tuned for blogs from the teachers about their experience in Turkey and information about a program on Turkey in the works for this fall!
