Foreign Trade Zone #71 Expanded!

The Foreign Trade Zone Board has designated Foreign Trade Zone #71 an alternative site framework. This will allow for the expansion of Foreign Trade Zone #71, originally limited to Crown Industrial Park in Windsor Locks and the modest expansion located in Windsor and East Granby. Foreign Trade Zone #71 can now be expanded to encompass 5 Connecticut counties, Hartford, Middlesex, Litchfield, Tolland, and Windham, and will be allowed to cover up to a total of 2,000 acres. The area inside Foreign Trade Zone #71 is not subject to U.S. customs regulations. Firms can, therefore, store goods in this trade zone without having to pay taxes or duties on them. Companies can also label products “made in the U.S.” if at least 50% of the value of these products had been added within the borders of Foreign Trade Zone #71. This will undoubtedly encourage further foreign investment and business activity in Connecticut.
