So today we formally started our program. Despite it being a rainy day here in Sydney we are off to a great start. The day started with a short trip to the world famous Bondi beach. It was a great spot to watch all of the surfers
Then it was off to our first site visit the SM@RT Centre at the University of New South Wales. We had a briefing by Veena Sahajwalla. She is known world-wide for her work on “Green Steel” turning used tires into steel. (she is also a tv judge on the Australia Show New Inventors.
Our briefing focused on the work they are doing in green social technology. We learned about how they are researching ways to reuse and breakdown waste. This means everything from old chairs and furniture to e-waste. And how you deploy t and scale these technologies for all sectors – SME’s nonprofits, and municipalities.
We had a tour of the labs where they look at e-waste in particular way to use turn some of the e-waste into metal alloy. ‘
We then headed to dinner at the Sky Tower in Sydney – Wow a great 360 view of the city-
we are off to a great start.
